How did you know you were trans?

Post Content

Hi, I hope this is okay to ask. I’m coming from a more conservative background where I was often told that trans people aren’t really trans, but are influenced by media or social trends. I’m trying to challenge what I’ve been taught and hear directly from trans people instead of just listening to second-hand opinions. One thing I struggle to understand is this: I often hear people say they realized they were trans because they preferred stereotypical things associated with another gender, or because they were uncomfortable with parts of their body. But a lot of cis people also don’t fit stereotypes or feel uncomfortable with their bodies sometimes. So I’m wondering — what made it different for you? If you’re comfortable sharing, how did you personally realize you were trans? What made you feel it was about your gender identity and not just personality, interests, or general body insecurity? I’m not trying to invalidate anyone — I genuinely want to understand your experiences better. Thank you to anyone who’s willing to share.
