Latest NSV and strength training thoughts

Post Content

Since I am not having ANY scale victories (I have gained and lost the same 3 lbs since October), this was a good one. I ran into my old boss, who I last saw in about September, and she said, “hey, you look great! Where did the rest of you go?” I thought this was really nice! I’ve been strength training, doing a bodybuilding type of workout for a few months now. Since I’m putting on a good amount of muscle while burning fat, my weight has been pretty stagnant. Sometimes I get in my head because the scale is just not moving at all. But the mirror and my clothes don’t lie, I’m slimmer than I’ve been in probably 20 years, even though I weigh a good bit more. I just wanted to share that and hopefully offer some encouragement to those struggling with the scale. What I eat is probably 90% correct for my goals, and lifting these heavy weights has changed my perspective so much. I don’t even know what my goal weight is anymore, but I do know I’d like to be 30% body fat or lower. I’m currently around 36-37%, a year ago I was over 50% body fat and 30 lbs heavier. Running the numbers, I’ve lost about 45 lbs of fat and gained 15 lbs of muscle! I feel good and I can do so much more physically than just one year ago. Those numbers aside, I’ve gone from a size 18 to a loose 14. The scale tells a different story than my pants, and I’m going to believe the pants.
