Re-purging phase?

Hello everyone! I started tret by using the open sandwich method at bedtime (neutrogena hydroboost underneath) for 3 months and have recently switched to only tretinoin with no moisturizer on top or bottom. I have noticed an increase in acne since doing this and was wondering if this could be causing my skin to purge again. Thoughts? Routine: AM- Thayers toner, tatcha dewy skin cream, CerVe sunscreen PM- tatcha face wash, tret 0.025%, spironolactone 25mg
