BC over 40?

I’m 41 and recently came off of BC due to fear of increased dangerous side effects over the age of 40. But here’s the problem- I’m miserable. I have always had mittelschmerz (painful ovulation) so that is back with a vengeance. My moods seemed more upbeat. I feel like my depression has gotten worse recently for no discernible reason. And my sex drive went kaput. Realistically, can I just stay on BC into my 40’s? I’d love to hear experiences of anyone taking BC over 40.
