Bad yeast infection after taking heavy duty antibiotics for a dog bite wound

Post Content

As the title says, I got bit by a dog at work (I work in tje vet field). I went to the ER, they prescribed me a hefty prescription of Augmentin. My dumb ass didn't think to ask for Diflucan for a potential yeast infection. It's important to know that I DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE. It goes into effect on March 1st! I had to pay out of pocket for my scripts. (I was reimbursed through workmans comp). I got bit on the 2nd. It was a few days later when I started getting gnarly symptoms of a yeast infection; intense itching and inflammation and some discharge and small cut like abrasions all through my labia. On the 8th, I bought OTC Vagistat (I've never used that brand before, I usually use Monistat if it doesn't clear up on its own, which it usually does). I used the one time treatment dose of Vagistat the evening of the 8th, and the next day I had very bright almost orange bleeding like I was on my period. I don't get my period anymore because I have an IUD for that reason exactly. Today is the 12th, and the bleeding hasn't stopped. I've been using the monistat hydrocortisone inside my labia but not in my hole, of course, and that's helping with the itching and abrasions, but the bleeding hasn't stopped. It's still the same color and just smells like blood. I understand the medication can be aggressive when done all in one dose and can cause bleeding if the skin is already compromised. But I'm just concerned. Is there anything I should he doing? I don't think this is something I can submit to workers comp if I do go to urgent care or something. The itching and inflammation has gone down, I'm just lost as to what to keep doing. I want the bleeding to stop! 😭
