Menopause/Mirena

Post Content

I am 55 years old and have a mirena that was inserted 7/1/2020 - was supposed to be removed 7/1/25 - at last year's gyno appointment she discussed that studies had shown the mirena could stay in longer and would help with hormones during menopause. I asked when we would notice if it wasn't providing any hormones anymore and she said i would notice maybe some bleeding, cramping. As of now i don't' experience any of that. she did start me on the estradiol patch which has helped with night sweats, brain fog, hot flashes. i gave her a call recently because at times the patch itches so bad i have to remove it and add another patch. wanted to see if she can prescribe me more patches since i have to replace them sometimes. She said wwe probably should go ahead and remove the mirena and start on oral progesterone. I just am torn since the mirena isn't causing issues that i know of, unless the brain fog that i seem to have is caused by the mirena. the brain fog is the main issue i have as far as menapause is concerned. maybe if i have the mirena removed and start oral projesterone i would see a world of difference. Like i said my main complaint is brain fog. Also, when does this end?? Menopause? - i just thought at 55 I would be done.
