US copay assistance programs / insurance tips

By scheduling my ocrevus infusion in January and enrolling in the ocrevus copay assistance program, I was able to get my nearly $7000 copay for my infusion in January at no cost to me while also being able to reach my health insurance deductible and out of pocket max for the year. I worked with my neurologist to modify the schedule of my 6 month infusions so that I can have one of them in January. My insurance paid most of the bill and the copay assistance program paid the rest of it. I didn't have to do anything, this all happened automatically after my enrollment. The amount the copay assistance program covered still counted as my personal payment towards my personal health insurance plan deductibles. I often see posts about the expense of treatments in the US. I want to make sure my fellow Americans (and this may apply intentionally, worth looking into) know that a lot of drug manufacturers have copay assistance programs to offset the costs not covered by insurance. These copay programs are easy to Google and easy to apply for. Just search for [drug name] copay assistance program to find them and sign up. Different programs offer different assistance levels, but the most I've ever had to pay for treatment has been $5. Some programs are automatic after you sign up, and some require you to submit EOBs and bills online before they pay. Familiarize yourself with the steps required. You can call their support lines for help. TL;DR 1. Google your treatment name and co-pay assistance program. 2. Enroll in the program if one is available 3. Understand the terms of the program and what you need to do in order to receive the benefit, if anything. 4. If you or on a treatment like ocrevus where you need to schedule treatments in advance, work with your neurologist to be able to get a treatment in January to be able to apply the amount the copay assistance program covers to your personal health insurance deductible to help offset costs for the year.
