Question for women who were naturally quite hairy before oral minoxidil
Post Content
I was diagnosed with AGA and TE by a dermatologist, however she refused to prescribe me oral minox or even spiro due to my other health conditions. I am seeing another in April and hoping she will be more willing to provide me with treatment as my hair loss has become a source of severe depression for me and I don't know how to cope any longer. I am starting university in September and really don't want this obsession to ruin my experience. I just want to have fun like every other girl and worry about 'normal' things, not becoming bald in my 20s :( I am of South Asian descent and already quite a hairy woman. I have fine, but dark, arm and upper thigh hair as well as peach fuzz, and a bit on the small of my back too. It isn't very noticeable apart from my arms (which extends to my hands but very sparsely) so I don't often mind, and just dermaplane my upper lip if it's bothering me. I have essentially the same amount of hair as a white woman, it's just darker. No hirsutism or PCOS! I do have hypothyroidism and endometriosis though, as well as occasional migraines with aura. It's been especially hard as a South Asian to lose my hair because it is a point of pride in our culture and what we're known for. Most of the women on my dad's side of the family have beautiful, thick, long hair which I also used to have until about 3 years ago, and it makes me so sad to be the odd one out. My mother has similar hair thinning to me, though she isn't bothered about treating it, and so I'm convinced I got the AGA genes come from her side of the family (white British). Due to the aforementioned, I am quite apprehensive to start oral minox (provided I actually do get a prescription this time) as I know one of the main side effects is excessive body hair growth. So for my fellow hairy girls, whether you're South Asian or Mexican/Italian/etc, how bad was this? How often do you have to remove it, and what method do you use to do so? Did you see results on your head that made the extra fuzz worth it? What dosage do you currently take? Were there any other horrible side effects? Thank you! 💋💕
