Can stress/anxiety cause tinnitus?

Can stress/anxiety cause tinnitus or things similar to it? Last night I was trying to sleep and all I heard were cicadas!! There were no cicadas though!! It was PAINFULLY annoying. I woke up today and it’s gonna but I’m scared it’s going to happen again.
