Casual Ableism on reddit knocks me for six

Post Content

I'm pretty lucky in my own life after 3 years of CFS to not face much ableism. I am surrounded by good people who have learned and adjusted, even my co-workers get it even though they look at me weirdly when I say I'm going to keep living with my parents and rent out the house I own when it's liveable, instead of forcing myself to be independent yet sicker. My fatigue also has been improving super slowly so...lucky in respects. Anyway, I kind of forget the level of casual Ableism that is out there. A post from the Waiting to Wed subreddit (I mean, not the place to look in on guys) popped up and a bunch of women were claiming the husband was probably lying about having fatigue and other chronic symptoms like migraines he's had since their child was born. Me and another commenter pointed out that was an ableist take. Cue the downvotes for our comments and the upvotes for those claiming he's lying. Another comment saying if he's able to work and travel then he should be fine having another child. I understand that those people don't know enough to know they are being ableist, but still I forgot how horrifically comfortable people are with accusing you of lying if you are not doing your best to feign able bodiedness.
