Slowing Down to Feel Full Works Better Than Anything Else
Post Content
I have been on this weightloss journey for a long time, like a lot of people, and I wanted to share a little awakening I had today! For reference, I'm now a healthy weight (hurray!) but I'm still working on creating those life long healthy habits, so when my workout routine falters or life gets in the way I'm setting myself up to stay healthy. This subreddit is excellent for that! One of my greatest challenges has always been feeling full. I don't mean feeling overwhelmingly full, but I want to eat a meal and feel it sitting in my stomach after, ya know. I've eaten carb heavy, protein heavy, fiber heavy, veggie heavy meals, drank lots of water, and STILL, I will consume a hearty meal (could be 500 calories or 1000 calories) and yet I still don't feel that "I'm done" feeling. And unfortunately, I know myself, if I don't feel comfortably full, I want to keep eating. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, but I always want to. Also, I am a FAST eater. I inhale my food. It's gone in about 5-20 minutes. Well, today I made delicious waffles for lunch (topped with a bit of peanut butter and maple syrup)! But my recently bought waffle iron is not the best, and each tiny waffle takes about 10-15 minutes to make. I was making them for my boyfriend and I, so we'd each get a waffle every 30 minutes or so lol. Not the plan, but we both work from home so whatever. But lo and behold, I ate three waffles (keep in mind these are eggo-waffle size waffles, about 160 calories each), and by waffle three, I felt that feeling in my stomach! I was full. I finished all three (I probably would have been content with 2.5, but who eats half a tiny waffle haha) and now I'm sitting here, comfortably full, and frustrated that truly, for me, all I need to have that full feeling is to just slow down. This isn't revolutionary, people say this all the time. I'm just annoyed they're right haha. (For reference, 5'4 woman, 135lbs)
