How to bring up trying a med without seeming like I'm med seeking?

Hello! I'll make this short and sweet. Since getting diagnosed with fibro, my doctor has tried a few meds to curb the pain but they have made no noticeable difference, in fact i feel like I'm still getting worse. I recently had surgery and was prescribed tramadol for recovery. During that time of taking it, guess what? Significant decrease in pain. After recovery and finishing up the last of the tramadol, the pain has returned. How do I bring up the possibility of trying out tramadol long term without seeming like I'm seeking a narcotic?
