[Acne] Benzoyl peroxide caused purging. Will starting Adapalene cause purging again?

For 8 weeks, CeraVe benzoyl peroxide 4% (recommended by dermatologist) caused purging. I stopped it this week (I also think it and other CeraVe just personally wasn't good for my skin). Dermatologist now recommends Adapalene, but I just learned it often causes purging too. I'm very worried. I hate that my skin is so much worse now that I'm trying to fix it. It's temporary, but I don't know how to stand handling worse acne for 4-8 more weeks. Will the Adapalene cause new purging, or am I okay now that so much of the acne has already been brought to the surface by BP? I feel terrible. I'm over 30 years old and I hate going out with everyone seeing my skin get worse and worse.
