Stimulants Stopped Working for Me
Post Content
I (25M) have been diagnosed ADHD inattentive since the age of 12. I was put on Ritalin and Concerta as a child and it seemed to help me in school but the nausea was unbearable and I had 0 appetite so we stopped the meds. At about 18-19 I was struggling to adapt to the adult world and began medication again on Vyvanse this time and I would feel wired but still focus on all the wrong things. Over time, it began giving me anxiety and I switched to Concerta again. Basically the side effects caused by these stimulants as an adult consisted of intense sweating from the pits, nausea and they KILLED my libido. I had to then stop concerta. If I go unmedicated I quite literally spiral and can’t complete basic daily tasks so I am now on Wellbutrin which is a non-stimulant and technically an anti depressant that some say helps with ADHD. I believe it has helped in some minor ways but my struggle with staying on a routine, finding and keeping jobs, handling daily tasks etc. still feels unbearable. I maladaptive daydream for so long on a daily basis and spend hours on my phone. Stimulant medication was horrible for me and I genuinely don’t know what else to try. I meditate, I have weekly therapy, I go to the gym daily, but once I am home I do nothing but scroll and daydream. I am terrified that I’m going to waste my life away accomplishing nothing with no one to blame but myself. Any non-conventional advice on what might help with this? We’ve all heard the “make a list, use your calendar, create a schedule blah blah blah” our entire lives so I’m wondering if anyone has anything unique or out of the ordinary that helped them.
