IUD placed a year ago still bleeding

I got my mirena about a year ago. the first 6 months were great! then I started bleeding every day. they put me on the pill to even it out. it would work for about two weeks then bleed again. I stopped this because it wasn't working anymore and just continued to wait it out. I got the ultrasound and it's placed correctly. there has only been one month where I wasn't bleeding at all so I thought it was back to normal. I am now bleeding again!! so frustrating. has anyone had this and waited it out and it ended up being fine? I don't want kids so other forms of birth control seem scary to me as they might not be as effective. unless the patch is just as effective?? help!
