HRT and melasma

Post Content

Did anyone else get melasma when they started HRT and what have you found works best to treat it? I’ve been on HRT for 2 years, standard .05 estradiol patch and progesterone. I’ve noticed the start of melasma on my arms, and looked it up because I figured there was a connection with HRT (because the only people I ever knew who had melasma were pregnant, so … hormones). I went to the derm today to get my annual BBL, mentioned that I had melasma on my arms to him, and he said broadband light treatment is the absolute worst thing you can get when you have melasma. He checked my face and it’s all over my face, just pretty light and I guess I don’t look that closely at my face. He gave me some prescriptions that I don’t have yet, told me to use mineral sunscreen and avoid all sources of light, including computers and phones and, of course, the sun. Just looking for experiences for managing this.
