Facial/Laser recommendations for oily acne prone skin

Post Content

Hi Reddit - I am a 31 year old and FINALLY on the tail end of my decade long acne journey. For background and context, the last 5 years I was getting deep cystic acne mostly along my cheek and jaw line, but also would get it occasionally on the forehead and hairline. I had always struggled with acne but the breakouts I experienced over the last 2 years especially were more severe, and seemed random and unpredictable. For reasons I’m actually not sure of (I changed a LOT over the last few months so hard to pinpoint) - my skin has been miraculously clearing up to a point I haven’t seen since my high school years! My skin type is naturally quite oily and prone to clogged pores, so I still get occasional white heads primarily but nothing nearly as bad as before. I assume most of these white heads are due to my pores being more susceptible to clogging due to my scarring and the damage on them from the severity of my acne and that a lot of it ended up popping on its own, or me extracting it (I know terrible). I am very prone to large sebaceous filaments and it seems like some of the pores collapsed slightly too in a way? Since I am still dealing with occasional active breakouts and a lot of PIE/scarring - what treatments would you recommend looking into first? My first thought was microneedling, but I read that it might not be great for people that still have active breakouts since the needles can push the clogged filaments deeper into the skin and cause more trouble/damage. If anyone has had a similar healing journey and can share what professional treatments they started with I’d love to hear. Thanks in advance :)
