Methylphenidate vs lisdexamfetamine side effects

Post Content

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience and see if others can relate. I was taking 10 mg extended-release methylphenidate with a 50/50 release profile, similar to Ritalin LA. What I struggle with most isn’t anxiety or major physical side effects. My heart rate and blood pressure stay mostly stable, maybe slightly higher but nothing dramatic. The main issue is the onset. When the medication kicks in, I really feel it. It’s not subtle. It feels like a noticeable surge. My head gets a bit light for a moment, almost like a wave or rush. It’s not panic, but it’s uncomfortable and very obvious. I don’t like feeling the medication enter my system that strongly. I also experience emotional flattening. I feel less expressive and less spontaneous, almost like my personality becomes muted. It helps with focus, but I don’t feel fully like myself. Then after about 7 to 8 hours, when it wears off, I clearly feel the drop. The evening feels like a mild depressive phase with low mood and low motivation. It’s a noticeable comedown. I’m trying to understand whether this is typical for methylphenidate or just how I personally react to it. For those of you on Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine), do you still feel a kick-in when it starts working, or is it much smoother compared to methylphenidate? From what I’ve read, Vyvanse should have a softer and more gradual onset because it’s a prodrug, so in theory you shouldn’t feel that sharp surge. I’m curious whether in real life it actually feels that way. I was only on 10 mg, so not even a high dose, and the onset still felt quite pronounced to me. Has anyone switched from methylphenidate to Vyvanse because of a strong onset and evening crash? Did it feel more stable overall? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences.
