How do you know you’re in menopause after hysterectomy?

Post Content

I had my hysterectomy FINALLY on October 1st at 56 yrs old. No sign of my period ending and it was getting heavier and heavier til I found out that a fibroid I had quadruped in size and was causing the heavy bleeding. I got the run around from my drs for the last 5 years..I tried everything under the sun to lighten my periods and nothing worked til they saw this huge fibroid which was depleting my ferritin levels. Long story short my surgeon said she was going to leave my ovaries unless she saw a reason to remove both or one (I have a history of abnormal Pap smears, colposcopies LEEP procedures 🙄 and 2 maternal aunts with ovarian cancer) after the surgery I was told that she removed my one ovary and the fibroid was attached to its blood supply hence the heavy bleeding. She told me that I’ll still be having hormones released from my ovary and that I might still feel perimenopause symptoms. After the surgery I had crazy night sweats but they went away after a week. (Mind you I never had any hot flashes or other symptoms before my surgery) it’s been 4 months and now I’ve started the night sweats all over where i wake up multiple times a night soaking wet, I have trouble sleeping and staying asleep and now I’m assuming I have hot flashes. In the middle of nowhere I’ll start feeling an internal heat like someone is starting a fire lol like hot sweat that rises from my chest up around the back of my neck and into my head/hair where it leaves it wet. Is this what hot flashes feel like? My sis who is younger than me had hem years ago but I remember her face would turn bright red and she’d start fanning herself. That’s not happening to me. This lasts for about 5 mins and then I’m fine. So weird So my question is how do you know when you’re full on menopausal? When did you know or what did you experience? Did you have bloodwork done to tell you yes or no? I had bloodwork done 3 yrs ago and my dr was like I’ll be surprised if you have another period and lo and behold I went 2 more yrs with heavy periods🙄🙄 what should I look for? Thank you :)
